Poster Artificial Intelligence

A.I.

What exactly is this Artificial Intelligence that everyone is talking about?

In this show, Lieven Scheire introduces this new superhero of technology in an entertaining and accessible way. You'll get a glimpse of how it all works, what it can already do, and what it will be capable of in the future. It's a first encounter with something that might soon become your new friend, butler, advisor, psychologist, personal trainer or guardian angel: Artificial Intelligence.

DNA

The current and future possibilities of human genetics are simply overwhelming. They are both promising and frightening, chilling and delightful. Lieven gets you up to speed, all in layman's terms, but without unnecessarily dumbing things down.

Do not expect a typical science lecture. After all, Lieven has a solid background in stand-up comedy, and cannot hide it.

Nerd Olympics

Do nerds watch sports? Of course they do! Every discipline is stuffed with science and technology, and interesting facts you had never noticed. So, yes, nerds have more fun, even when watching the olympic games. To get you started Lieven has made a couple of videos to explain the science, technology and general nerdiness at work in archery, fencing, the pole vault, the decathlon and the marathon.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe

In 2015 Lieven made his Edinburgh Fringe debut with his show on Einstein’s’ theory of relativity. All shows were sold out.

If science lessons back at school had been more like this, maybe we would have all paid more attention and be six times smarter now.

About Lieven

Lieven Scheire

THE SECRET BELGIAN LOVE CHILD OF STEPHEN FRY AND DARA O BRIAIN

Lieven Scheire is a Belgian comedian, physicist and science communicator on stage and on TV, in both Dutch and English.

He develops and hosts TV shows, tours with an English-language scientific comedy set on stage, and hosts events for universities and scientific or technological companies. His unique blend of science and comedy is highly appreciated by audiences. He can explain science or interview scientists with both a deep understanding of the subject and witty lightheartedness.

Lieven is the face and founder of ’Nerdland’, a popular brand in which he, alongside a group of geeky friends, brings science and technology closer to the broader public. He has written several bestsellers in the Nerdland book series, created multiple science programs for Belgian television, hosts the Nerdland podcast (top 3 podcasts in Belgium) and organizes the country’s biggest science festival: Nerdland Festival. In 2023, the festival attracted more than 20,000 visitors.

In his stand-up career, Scheire regularly performs to audiences of 1500+ in Holland and Belgium, and occasionally ventures as far as Spain or Switzerland (he was the headliner at the first edition of the CERN comedy festival in 2013).

In 2015, Lieven made his Edinburgh Fringe debut, selling out all shows, but he is no stranger to performing in the UK, featuring in high-profile gigs such as the Barbican's Wikipedia festival, and the 'Pint of Science' tour, which took him to universities in London, Oxford, and Cambridge. In 2023, Lieven was a keynote speaker with his A.I. show at the Love Tomorrow Campus, an initiative by Tomorrowland.

The QI team are fans, having invited him three times to the 'No Such Thing As A Fish' podcast with the QI elves.
